The Ontario Securities Regulatory Commission (OSC) taught people in Chinese community how to protect your wallet
(Reporters from <Canada and World Report> Pincheng Zhao, Jin Zhang reported on March 17, 2018 in Toronto) “In Canada, one out of every 20 people is the victim of investment fraud, and one out of every five people is potentially in touch with investment fraudster. The Ontario Securities Regulatory Commission (OSC) official Christine Allum (Seniors Advisor, Investor Engagement and Stakeholder Partnerships) gave an introduction in the public lecture that was held by Canada national talent service and Sichuan university alumni association.
The topic of this public lecture is “How to protect your money!” this lecture was the first lecture that the Ontario Securities Regulatory Commission (OSC) had for the Chinese community. Ontario Securities Regulatory Commission (OSC) officials Christine Allum (Seniors Advisor, Investor Engagement and Stakeholder Partnerships) and Raj Balasubramanian (Manager, Investor Engagement and Outreach) introduced the following aspect:
1. Red flags of investment fraud
2. Types of scams (Ponzi, pump and dump, double dip, boiler room)
3. Investments (Mutual Funds, Stocks, ETFs, RRSP, RESP, TFSA)
4. Working with a financial advisor and investment fees
5. Cryptocurrency
6. Real Estate investments (mortgage investment entities, syndicated mortgages, REITs)
7. Resources and contact the OSC to speak to us in your language
8. Resources on GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca
9. Checking registration of the person or firm selling investment product or providing advice
