According to the World Chinese Media Report, Community safety lecture “the Police Officer of Richmond Hill teaches you how to build a safe community” that held by the National Talent Service Canada has achieved unprecedented success!

More and more people began concern about the safety of the community and the family recently, especially when the elderly and children stay at home alone, after their sons, daughters or their parents heading out to work .How to handle some unexpected things that happened when you are home alone, such as: sales person knocking on the door, how to call 911 in an emergency situation, how to take care of each other in our community, etc.

More than 20 seniors from the York area and Toronto area have enjoyed the lecture by multi-cultural “guardian” of the York area, Mason Zhou. The lecture was in Mandarin, and the lecture was vivid, humorous and interesting, the room was filled with laughter.

With a population of 1.5 million and the cases of murder are only 3-4 cases per year, York is one of the safest communities in Canada.  police officer Zhou said that residents of communities can’t only “hoe your own potato.”, we must take care of each other.  Seniors stay at home the most, how to be alert to suspicious people and vehicles, how to make a phone call to police in non-emergency situation, how to block The Crime Triangle and so on.

Chinese has a saying: “Seniors are the treasure of family.” The seniors were very happy in this exchange meeting and have established their confidence, especially about how to call 911 and handling door-to-door sales. They also introduced the safety tips of apartment elevators and parking lots. The seniors hope that in the future the talent pool can hold more events for helping the elderly to get to know more life tips, it’s not only helps their families but also give them more ability to maintain community security.

Mr. Alex Yuan, the chairman of the Conservative Party in Richmond Hill, also brought the seniors the channels to participate in politics and express their opinions. He also Analyzed and elaborated his own idea about marijuana, sexual education, refugee issues and recent Canadian and Saudi events that many seniors concern about; Inspiring everyone’s political enthusiasm, understand that in Canada: normal formulation requires the support of parliamentarians, the police are the guardians who protect our security, they are a group which strictly enforced but cannot give a ruling.
